Kirk Reagan, CFP®, MQFP®
Specializations: Advice Only, FIRE, Real Estate, Airline Pilots, One-time and Project-based planning

A retired Air Force officer and advice-only financial planner helping active duty, veterans, and their families get a second look at retirement and build a clear financial roadmap.

After 25 years of Air Force service, I retired and eventually found my next mission: helping people make smarter financial decisions with confidence.

Early in my Air Force career, I saw too many good people get pushed into expensive financial products that were not right for them. I did my best to help anyone who asked avoid those traps. That experience stuck with me, and it is a big reason I founded High Flight Financial.

Today, my goal is simple: help active duty, veterans, and their families make informed financial decisions without sales pressure, commissions, or ongoing asset-management fees.

Before founding High Flight Financial, I worked as a financial advisor at Vanguard and completed my Certificate in Financial Planning. My own experience includes saving for retirement, living off retirement savings, saving and funding college, investing in residential real estate since 2006, and studying estate-planning strategies such as revocable trusts and charitable remainder trusts.

Many of my clients come to me because they want a second set of eyes on their retirement plan. They want to know if they are truly on track, whether they can retire sooner, how much they can safely spend, or whether their current plan actually holds up under stress.  Some are just starting out and want to make sure they are taking full advantage of all of their benefits and if they are saving enough to reach their goals.

High Flight Financial is advice-only and fee-only. I do not manage your investments for a percentage, charge an ongoing retainer, or collect commissions on anything I recommend. Instead, I help you build a full financial plan upfront, then provide hourly support when you want it. Some clients prefer semiannual check-ins. Others just need help with a specific decision, retirement calculation, or financial “vector check.” The level of support is up to you.

I work virtually with clients, which keeps costs lower and allows me to serve people wherever they are. Whether you need a complete financial roadmap, a retirement confidence check, or help organizing the moving pieces of your financial life, I’m ready to help.

When I’m not working with clients, I’m usually attending family events, staying current on financial planning topics, or cheering on my favorite football team.

If you want to know whether you are really on track for retirement, let’s take a second look together.

Dedrick Curtis CFP®, ChFC®, AFC®
Specializations:Medical Professionals, LGBTQ+ & Allies, First Generation Military, First Generation Professionals

You didn’t get where you are by making average decisions. Why settle for average financial advice?  I’m Dedrick Curtis, founder of Penny Earned Financial and a Navy veteran who made the bold move of marrying into the Army. Yes, we are a house divided come football season. It’s fine. We have coping strategies. Mostly texted memes and themed snacks.

I’m a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional, Chartered Financial Consultant®, and Accredited Financial Counselor®. But more than the alphabet soup, I bring a lived understanding of military life and the complex, often chaotic, financial decisions that come with it.

I built Penny Earned Financial for people who are too sharp to fall for one-size-fits-all advice. My clients are high-performing military members and veterans, especially medical professionals like physicians, psychologists, dietitians, physicians assistants, physical therapists, nurses, occupational therapists, and many others, but I also work with first-generation professionals, LGBTQ+ service members and allies, and others carving a path no one in their family has walked before. My clients are people with serious responsibilities and very little patience for fluff. They don’t want a sales pitch. They want smart, strategic advice from someone who understands what they’re up against.

That’s where I come in. My firm is 100% virtual, judgment-free, and operates on a flat-fee, advice-only basis. No commissions. No product pushing. No awkward conversations about insurance you never asked for. Whether we work together on a one-time project or through ongoing monthly planning, the goal is the same: to help you take control of your financial life and make confident decisions in the face of uncertainty.

Before launching my firm, I spent years working in higher education, government contracting, and military financial counseling. I’ve helped clients navigate everything from GI Bill confusion and transition planning to tax strategies, TSP allocations, investing, home renovation, starting a family, and budgeting that doesn’t require twelve spreadsheets and a prayer. And yes, we can absolutely start with the basics. Don’t know how a mutual fund works or what an ETF is?  Don’t know how to begin creating a basic spending plan?  Not sure of the best ways to buy a car or your first home?  I bring structure, transparency, and a healthy dose of realism to the planning process, along with the flexibility to pivot when life throws a surprise deployment your way.

Many of the folks I work with are the first in their families to hold a professional degree, earn a commission, or navigate wealth, and that comes with pressure, pride, and questions Google or AI can’t answer. Others are looking for a planner who affirms their identity and values, not one who dances around them.

If you’ve been putting off getting your finances in order because no one seemed to speak your language or because your path doesn’t fit the mold, you’re in the right place. Let’s talk!

Omen Quelvog, CFP®, MQFP®
Specializations:Military Retirement / Transition, Dual Military, Federal Government, Military to Contractors

Military Financial Planning for Active Duty, Veterans, Retirees & Their Families.

Hi, I’m Omen. I’m a retired Marine with 25 years of active-duty service as both an enlisted Marine and officer, and I now serve military families as a CFP® and MQFP® professional providing flat-fee, fiduciary financial planning.

I work primarily with active-duty service members, military retirees, and military-connected families who are within roughly three to five years of retirement or already navigating life after service. Many of my clients are balancing a military pension, Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) decisions, VA benefits, taxes, and family priorities while preparing for one of the most significant transitions of their lives.

In addition to military families, I frequently work with federal civilian employees, government contractors, and educators. These families often face similar planning challenges, including coordinating multiple retirement systems, navigating complex benefit packages, and managing income that changes over time. My experience with federal and educator benefits helps ensure both partners’ careers are thoughtfully integrated into a cohesive financial plan.

My approach is shaped by lived experience. I’ve navigated PCS moves that disrupted carefully built plans, single-income periods while raising a family, and deployments that rewrote every budget assumption. Those realities inform how I plan today, with empathy, structure, and a deep respect for the complexity of military life.

I founded Formynder Wealth Management to offer an alternative to the traditional assets-under-management model. I am fee-only and flat-fee, meaning I do not charge a percentage of assets under management (AUM) and do not earn commissions. This allows me to provide objective guidance that aligns financial decisions with what matters most.

How I Work With Clients

I work with clients in three primary ways, depending on their needs and stage of life:

  • Ongoing Wealth Management
For clients who want ongoing financial planning combined with investment management. This engagement includes everything in comprehensive planning, with professionally managed portfolios, coordinated within a flat-fee structure and without asset-based pricing.
  • Ongoing Comprehensive Financial Planning
A continuous planning relationship focused on cash flow and debt management, tax planning, education planning, risk management, estate considerations, and retirement strategy. This is ideal for families who want an ongoing partner to help navigate decisions as life and career evolve.
  • Limited-Scope Planning Projects
Focused, one-time or short-term planning engagements designed to address specific questions or decisions, such as retirement readiness, transition planning, or benefit coordination.

My planning work focuses on turning complex military pay and benefits into a coordinated, practical plan. This includes retirement income planning around pensions and TSP, tax strategy, education and risk planning, estate considerations, and guidance through career and lifestyle transitions. I also offer integrated faith-based planning for clients who want their financial decisions filtered through a biblical lens.

Formynder Wealth Management operates 100 percent remotely, serving military families across the country and around the world. If you are looking for a CFP® and MQFP® professional who understands military life firsthand and provides flat-fee, fiduciary advice without commissions or asset-based fees, I’m here to help you build a clear plan and adjust as the mission changes.

About Omen

I discovered my calling as a financial planner in 2019 after decades of navigating military life firsthand, including PCS moves, deployments, and single-income stretches. Along the way, I saw how often service members were sold high-cost products when what they needed was clear, objective guidance. That experience led me to pursue a career as a fee-only, fiduciary financial advisor.

After retiring from the Marine Corps in 2024 and completing a SkillBridge internship with the Military Financial Advisors Association, I launched my firm to serve military and military-connected families with flat-fee, client-first advice.

I remain active in MFAA, NAPFA, and the Financial Planning Association to stay connected to a community committed to ethical, high-quality planning.

Outside of work, I’ve set roots in Fredericksburg, Virginia with my wife of 25 years. Together, we enjoy supporting our grown sons in their theater and music pursuits, checking out a Fred Nats game, and serving in our local church. I stay active and balanced through running and cycling clubs. Our travel often centers on races, new cities, and time outdoors.

Alan Nelson, CFP®, ChFC®, MQFP®, RICP®
Specializations:Military Retirement / Transition, Veteran in Tech & Equity Compensation, Military Divorce

Hi, I’m Alan, Founder of Measured Money Maneuvers. My passion is to help military, veterans and military family members live their best and full rich lives. Coming from a modest background, I knew money was tight and it helped me quickly learn the value of a dollar. I got my first paper route at age 10 and was able to help support the family and earn my own things from a very young age. At eighteen, I was independent and living on my own, attending community college and working full-time to make ends meet, but was not sure what I wanted to do with my life, and knew I didn’t want to get shackled with a ton of student loan debt. That’s when I enlisted in the Navy with the goals to serve our country, learn valuable skills, hopefully figure out what I wanted to pursue in life, and get my college education paid for, or at least get the GI Bill to assist with college later. I was fortunate to earn a commissioning program and while I initially thought I’d transition out in 6-8 years, I went on to serve a career as a submarine officer. As a 25-year mustang officer, I understand and empathize with both the enlisted and officer communities.

As a young junior officer, I wanted to help my Sailors holistically – professionally, personally and of course, financially. Many young service members make poor early financial decisions that can take them years to recover from due to: 1) lack of financial literacy, 2) having their own paycheck for the first time in many cases and, 3) being the target of many unprincipled salespeople.

Initially, I would bring in outside personnel to “train” my departments on investing but realized 1) these outsiders were not very good 2) they didn’t really care about my people and 3) did not provide actionable steps for my team – it became apparent that I needed to know this subject material well enough to teach them myself. Through years of self-study and my own personal mistakes, I’d learned a great deal and started teaching my crew to help put them on the right path early, and hopefully avoid making the same mistakes I did.

I considered financial advising when I was transitioning to the private sector, but I didn’t like what I saw in too much of the industry. Too many high fee models serving only rich people to protect their assets, and still too many salespeople working on commission under a “suitability” standard vice being fiduciaries who must act in clients’ best interests.

I continue teaching personal finance and investing along with career transition assistance to transitioning military, military spouses, veterans and high-tech engineers as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional, but realized that I could truly help more people by launching my own fee-only, fiduciary registered investment advisor (RIA) firm, Measured Money Maneuvers LLC.

Joseph Brown, Ph.D., CFP® MQFP®
Specializations:College Planning, Senior Officer Retirement, Educators

Hello, my name is Joe and after retiring from the USCG I decided to begin a second career in financial planning – focusing on helping fellow service members and veterans. When I was discerning what my new “mission” would be, I heard three stories that truly affected me, two of officers I new who had transitioned out of the service and ended up homeless for a time, and a third who felt trapped on his couch with not enough income, or career prospects to live a fulfilling life post the service. These stories inspired me to help service members and veterans with their finances to ensure that they would be able to live a fulfilling life and maintain financial security for their family.

A little about me, I am a 1998 U.S. Coast Guard Academy alumnus (B.S. Marine and Environmental Sciences), and retired from the US Coast Guard after 25 years of service.
My duty assignments included:
• Deck watch officer on Coast Guard Cutter Polar Sea from 1998-2001
• Port safety and security officer at Marine Safety Officer San Diego from 2001-2004
• Rotating military faculty member at USCGA from 2004-2010
• Response Department head for Marine Safety Unit Morgan City from 2010-2012
• Permanent Commissioned Teaching Staff and I was the inaugural Chair of the Chemical and Environmental Sciences Department at USCGA 2013–2023

Highlights from my military career included overseeing port safety and security for the first military outloads in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, certifying the Deep Water Horizon wreck as pollution free, and as a deck watch officer for two OPERATION DEEP FREEZEs. I then retired from the USCG in 2023.

In my final year of service, I earned a master’s in financial planning (2023) and since retiring certifications as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® and Military Qualified Financial Planner®. I am now living my next chapter fully, having founded Always Ready Financial Planning LLC, specializing in financial strategies for military families, including maximizing veterans’ benefits for education. I also continue to teach as a visiting professor of personal finance at USCGA since 2023, equipping cadets with financial literacy, and mentoring the Coast Guard’s future leaders.
I live in Westerly, RI, with my wife, Melissa, and three children – two of which have decided to follow me into military service. I attempt to continue embodying the Coast Guard values through community service and passions for ocean activities, woodworking, and golf.

Paul Allen, CFP®, EA, MQFP®
Specializations:Business Owners, Real Estate Investing, & Tax Preparation / Tax Planning

Thanks for checking out my profile!

When I was a young sailor, I couldn’t find the kind of financial advisor I wanted—so when I retired from the Navy after 24 years of service, I became one.

Since then, I’ve devoted my career to helping military and veteran families make smarter financial decisions. Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of working with an incredible network of advisors—many of whom are fellow veterans or military spouses—who share my mission of delivering trusted, fiduciary advice to those who serve.

I’m currently the Chief Compliance Officer at APFORIA, an SEC-registered investment adviser built to support independent fiduciary advisors, especially those who want to serve niche communities like the military and veteran population. I also own and operate PIM Tax Services, a firm dedicated to tax preparation and planning for military families, and I’m a co-founder of the Military Financial Advisors Association.

One of the most common financial planning needs of military and veteran families is tax strategy. As an Enrolled Agent, I prepare tax returns that meet the “LAMA” standard—Legal And Most Advantageous. You pay what you owe, and not a nickel more.

I’m a CFP® practitioner and hold the Military Qualified Financial Planner – MQFP® designation, so you can be confident that I not only understand military pay, benefits, and challenges, but also adhere to the highest fiduciary and ethical standards in the profession.

When I’m not working with clients or advisors, you’ll often find me volunteering time online—answering military tax and financial questions, mentoring early-career planners, or just building community around this important mission.

If you’re interested, I’d love to connect!

Brian O’Neill, CFP®, EA, MQFP®
Specializations:Active Duty Aviators, Airline Pilot Families, Senior Officer (O6/GO) Retirement

Hi, I’m Brian, founder of Winged Wealth Management and Financial Planning. After 23 years flying and commanding in F-16s and F-35s, I became a Certified Financial Planner® and started my firm to become what I could not find on my own financial journey: an advisor that specializes in helping wealth-minded, DIYer’s get fiduciary advice on their own terms. I provide organization, objectivity, education, accountability, proactivity, and partnership to help families navigate transitions, clarify complexity, and sleep well knowing their dreams are on track.

I became a fee-only financial planner to help the military and veteran communities build wealth and achieve their dreams. As I came up through the ranks, I could never find a financial professional that wasn’t either a salesman in disguise, or just trying to gather assets to manage. I needed professional, military-experienced advice, but I still wanted to keep my hands on the stick and throttle. As I evaluated my transition back to civilian life, I found the community of fee-only financial planners that truly serve their clients as fiduciaries—obligated to put the client’s interests first at all times. I knew I was in the right place!

In the last half of my Air Force career, I often felt that my career field was “squadron financial advisor,” and I was usually happiest when I was helping my fellow airmen analyze financial challenges, plan ways to surmount them, and then execute the plans to a successful conclusion.
Of course, as is often quoted, “Plans are nothing. Planning is everything.” I believe that the real secret sauce is ongoing financial planning—integrating cash flow, insurance, tax, investing, education, and retirement planning continuously and holistically. I believe that conflicts of interest are inherent in every financial relationship, so it’s crucial to be transparent and proactive discussing, identifying, and mitigating them.

I serve families across the nation and offer 4 different service models so that clients can choose the best fit for themselves. I can help you with hourly advice and analysis, a one-time financial plan, ongoing planning, or investment management with ongoing planning. I work alongside your accounting, tax, and legal professionals to bridge the gaps and seams in your financial world.

When I’m not helping families shape their future, I enjoy all things cycling, swimming, running, water and snow with my wife and two daughters.

Derek Merkler, CFP®
Specializations:Military to Corporate Transition, Young Veterans in Corporate World, Stock Options

Hi, I’m Derek. I spent 8 years as an Army aviator at stations like FT Rucker, FT Riley, and FT Hood along with a deployment to Afghanistan and culminating in 18 months as an Apache helicopter troop commander at FT Hood. Like other Veterans, I packed up and moved many times and spent too much time away from my family, especially as my wife was stationed separately from me for the first 5 years of our marriage. I left the Army after achieving my career goal of commanding a line company, one of the most fulfilling and challenging times in my life so far.

I launched my Trophy Point Financial Planning based on my own financial successes and failures and those of my peers, recognizing that most companies out there are selling financial products to earn commissions and hit sales targets while primarily working with people who are already wealthy.

My mission is to help Veterans and young professionals create financial structure in their lives and BUILD wealth. I figure out all the small yet important details…so you don’t have to.

I primarily work with Veterans in their 20s, 30s, and 40s who are looking to plan for their transition from the military to the corporate world.  That age range is the most complex in life… family, kids, home ownership, careers, and the resulting financial obligations all while trying to figure out that long-term goal of financial independence and/or retirement.  Adding in everything tied to leaving the military and starting a corporate career means that these Veterans can make big mistakes… and seize great opportunities.

Outside of financial planning, I have a bit of a need for speed.  I like stuff that goes fast… cars, motorcycles, bicycles, airplanes, and horses. I follow Formula 1 and endurance car racing… and may have typed this bio while watching the 24 Hours of Le Mans at 3 AM. I’ll watch MotoGP, World Superbike, and the Tour de France when they are on TV.

I also help my family raise thoroughbred racehorses near Lexington, KY. So, when I’m not working on financial plans, I’m trying to not get kicked by a mare or her foal! Every year in April and October, I host friends and clients for a behind the scenes tour of Kentucky horse racing during Keeneland’s opening weekend.  Our goal is to someday breed a horse that runs in the Kentucky Derby or Breeder’s Cup. We’ve come close already but missed out when that horse was injured.

I always want to leave someone with useful takeaways after they meet with me regardless of their decision to become a client. Below this bio is a link to my calendar.  When you schedule the 45-minute intro call, we will see if it makes sense to work together and I will leave you with my thoughts on your top 1-3 financial priorities given your stated goals.
