Dedrick Curtis CFP®, ChFC®, AFC®
Specializations:Medical Professionals, LGBTQ+ & Allies, First Generation Military, First Generation Professionals

You didn’t get where you are by making average decisions. Why settle for average financial advice?  I’m Dedrick Curtis, founder of Penny Earned Financial and a Navy veteran who made the bold move of marrying into the Army. Yes, we are a house divided come football season. It’s fine. We have coping strategies. Mostly texted memes and themed snacks.

I’m a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional, Chartered Financial Consultant®, and Accredited Financial Counselor®. But more than the alphabet soup, I bring a lived understanding of military life and the complex, often chaotic, financial decisions that come with it.

I built Penny Earned Financial for people who are too sharp to fall for one-size-fits-all advice. My clients are high-performing military members and veterans, especially medical professionals like physicians, psychologists, dietitians, physicians assistants, physical therapists, nurses, occupational therapists, and many others, but I also work with first-generation professionals, LGBTQ+ service members and allies, and others carving a path no one in their family has walked before. My clients are people with serious responsibilities and very little patience for fluff. They don’t want a sales pitch. They want smart, strategic advice from someone who understands what they’re up against.

That’s where I come in. My firm is 100% virtual, judgment-free, and operates on a flat-fee, advice-only basis. No commissions. No product pushing. No awkward conversations about insurance you never asked for. Whether we work together on a one-time project or through ongoing monthly planning, the goal is the same: to help you take control of your financial life and make confident decisions in the face of uncertainty.

Before launching my firm, I spent years working in higher education, government contracting, and military financial counseling. I’ve helped clients navigate everything from GI Bill confusion and transition planning to tax strategies, TSP allocations, investing, home renovation, starting a family, and budgeting that doesn’t require twelve spreadsheets and a prayer. And yes, we can absolutely start with the basics. Don’t know how a mutual fund works or what an ETF is?  Don’t know how to begin creating a basic spending plan?  Not sure of the best ways to buy a car or your first home?  I bring structure, transparency, and a healthy dose of realism to the planning process, along with the flexibility to pivot when life throws a surprise deployment your way.

Many of the folks I work with are the first in their families to hold a professional degree, earn a commission, or navigate wealth, and that comes with pressure, pride, and questions Google or AI can’t answer. Others are looking for a planner who affirms their identity and values, not one who dances around them.

If you’ve been putting off getting your finances in order because no one seemed to speak your language or because your path doesn’t fit the mold, you’re in the right place. Let’s talk!

Becky Noss, CFP®, ChFC®, MQFP®
Specializations:Military Retirement / Transition, Medical Providers, Student Loans (PSLF)

Hi, I’m Becky, founder of Healthy Wealth. I was raised in Virginia and hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Virginia Tech, complemented by a Master of Science in Math Education from Radford University. My professional journey began with tutoring and teaching mathematics, followed by a tenure with the SFL-TAP program, culminating in the discovery of my true calling in financial advising.

Additional education through the American College of Financial Services, coupled with years of financial planning tailored to military personnel led to the attainment of the CFP®, ChFC®, and MQFP® designations. Throughout this journey, I have assisted numerous soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, veterans, and federal employees to navigating the complexities of maximizing long-term tax efficiency, securing retirement, harnessing benefits to achieve life goals, and attaining financial peace of mind. Subsequently, I made the decision to embark on an entrepreneurial venture, founding Healthy Wealth LLC.

While my expertise lies in financial planning for military members and veterans, my comprehension extends beyond the numbers. Having spent 16 years married to a military physician, I possess an intimate understanding of the nuances of military life. Instead of needing to explain what it means to PCS or go TDY, clients will find instant recognition coupled with compassion and empathy.

My husband and I have two sons and our family is currently stationed at Carlisle Barracks in Carlisle, PA. Beyond my professional pursuits, I indulge in my passion for reading and have recently achieved a 2nd degree black belt in Shōrin-ryū Shōrinkan karate.

Amy King, CFP®, EA, MQFP®, ChFEBC(sm), CRPC®
Specializations: Federal Employees & Military Couples, Military Transition, & Tax Planning

Hi! I’m Amy King, Founder of Instar Financial Planning, LLC. I’m a retired Army officer married to a Federal civilian.  Over the years I had trouble finding a financial professional who did REAL financial planning and who understood the unique features of military and Federal employee benefits.  So I did my best to become the type of professional I searched for throughout my Army career.

I am a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER(TM), a Military Qualified Financial Planner, and a Chartered Federal Employee Benefits Consultant(sm). I’ve intentionally built my expertise and my firm to help Military Veterans, Federal employees and their families achieve their financial goals by leveraging our unique benefits and to navigate the challenges we face as we serve our country and communities.

I have an appreciation for those who prefer to “DIY” their finances but want a second opinion to validate/ provide feedback on all the work they’ve put into managing their finances.  But, I also realize some people want more help sometimes.  I’ve specifically designed my process to serve the DIYers but also those who want to outsource some or all of their financial planning needs on their terms.

Prior to launching Instar Financial Planning I worked at a large wealth management firm.  While I truly enjoyed working with my team and our clients, my calling is to serve Military, Veterans, and Federal employees. I wanted to provide the expertise our selfless public servants deserve through a service model they can embrace.

In my “free time”, you can find me keeping up with the day-to-day lives of my adult/ adult adjacent “kids” or volunteering with the Women’s Army Corps Veterans Association, Penn State Parents Council, or the Mason-Dixon Trail System. I also enjoy hanging with my yellow lab, Polly, who always knows just how to keep me in my place.

Specializations: Approaching Military Transition, Tax Planning, College Planning for Families with Jr/Sr High School Students, One-time and Project-based planning

Financial decisions are complex and interconnected.  Military life can add additional challenges. But, it also comes with benefits from reduced taxes, medical care, and a great pension for those who serve until they are retirement eligible.

So whether your concerns center on preparing for military retirement or transition, maximizing the use of the GI Bill, protecting your loved ones, or investing for the future, all can impact your financial freedom.

At Next Mission Financial Planning, we believe true
Financial Freedom = Options.  Our process is designed to help you set and achieve your Freedom By Date while balancing that with living your best life.

We work best with folks that are interested in learning and actively partnering through our planning only option or with those who are busy and just want to have someone do it for them through our planning + investment management option.

Let’s talk about how I might be able to help you achieve your goals.

A little about me:  I loved my 25-years in the Air Force but wanted to do something different when I retired. I’ve always enjoyed financial planning for myself as well as for friends and family.  Part of my learning curve was purchasing insurance and very high-fee mutual funds sold by a company that focuses on military personnel and who I believed had my best interest in mind. This is part of the reason I want to help military families… I don’t want them to make the same mistakes. I desire to educate you about your options, provide advice that is always in your best interest without having to sell specific products.

I’ll be excited to talk with you to see if we would be a fit and work together to achieve your Next Mission.
