Hi I’m Kate, founder of Clear Insight Wealth Management. In 2001, I married an army reservist who I met while working at Fidelity Investments. In 2010, my husband was laid off after returning from his third deployment to Iraq. It was a pivotal moment for us. We used this moment to reflect on what was really important to us and what gives us satisfaction. During this process my husband realized that his heart was in serving his country so he went on active duty and we moved to North Carolina. It was the first time I had the chance to interact with active duty military families. After understanding the scope of the financial decisions military families must deal with on their journey, I decided to open my own independent firm to help them navigate these decisions and be happier with the financial decisions they make. My husband is retired from the army now and we live in Virginia. I have expanded my practice to serve federal government employees as well as military families.
When a client begins working with me instead of diving into the financials, we will first get clear on what they need in life to be most fulfilled now and in the future. Once we are clear on this vision, we work together to build the financial plan to support that life. I find that taking this approach not only makes it easier for my clients to make their financial decisions but it inspires them to make change. In fact, they are often making changes in their lives by the second meeting. This process also makes it easier to make a financial decision that they are happy with. Many people don’t realize that sometimes the decision that puts the most money in your pocket, isn’t necessarily the one you will be happier with.
Like the other advisors on this site, I’m an independent, fee only advisor that acts as a fiduciary. That means that I don’t push proprietary products and my clients don’t have to wonder whether I’m recommending something because of a commission I might earn. My goal is to help people stop putting off what they really want to do and help them live their best life now.
